Libra in the Yildizname: Traits, Lucky Day, Stone and Colour

In the old bazaars, a small set of scales stood on every jeweller's counter. Gold went into one pan, a weight into the other, and everyone kept their eyes on the needle in the middle. However long the haggling lasted, the needle had the last word. In the Yildizname (star chart) tradition, Libra is remembered through that needle: a nature that passes no judgement before weighing both sides, always looking for the point where life is in balance.

The Libra of the Calendar and the Libra of the Name

The Libra in horoscope columns is the Western sun sign, set by your date of birth. The Yildizname Libra is calculated from names: the Abjad values of a person's own name and their mother's name are added, the total is divided by 12, and a remainder of 7 gives Libra. Someone born in October may therefore carry a different sign here, while Libra can come out of the name of someone born in any month of the year.

Beauty Carried by the Air: Venus's Other Face

Classical sources group the twelve signs into four triplicities, and Libra sits in the air triplicity with Gemini and Aquarius. In the old philosophy of nature, air is hot and moist: the element that spreads, connects and fills the space in between. The sign's planet is Venus, called Zuhra in the old sources.

Venus also rules Taurus, yet the same planet speaks differently through a different element. In earth, Venus looks for beauty in things you can hold. In air, it appears between two people: in the harmony of a conversation, in an agreement where everyone receives their due. Libra's sense of beauty is less about objects and more about relationships.

Two Pans: The Light and Shadow of the Same Gift

When tradition describes Libra, it also reminds us that every virtue has a price. It helps to think of it as two pans:

First pan: what Libra gives

  • Fairness: In a dispute, Libra does not speak before hearing both sides.
  • Diplomacy: Finds a way to say something hard without wounding.
  • Grace: Chooses the setting, the table and the words with care.
  • A sense of partnership: Tends to build both work and life around "us".

Second pan: the price of the same gift

  • Decision fatigue: Postponing a choice because everyone seems to have a point.
  • Avoiding conflict: Swallowing what needs to be said to keep the peace.
  • Judging by appearances: Dismissing what does not look good too quickly.
  • Need for approval: Weighing one's own worth through other people's eyes.

A needle resting in the middle does not mean both pans are empty; it means both have been weighed honestly. This list is not a verdict but a mirror that tradition holds up to a temperament.

Love and Partnership: The Sign That Says "We"

The Yildizname Libra does not enjoy solitude for long; life gains meaning when it is shared. Love is shown with finesse: the right word at the right moment, a gift chosen to suit the other person's taste, a smile that softens a tense evening. Libra expects a fair share in a relationship, and when the effort starts to feel one-sided, may quietly withdraw.

The hard part is the moment of choosing. Caught between two paths, two people or two cities, Libra weighs for a long time. Tradition advises this nature to decide at a balance that is good enough rather than waiting for a perfect one.

Element Compatibility: Who Brings Libra into Balance?

When looking at the compatibility of two people, the elements are compared first. For Libra's air, the general picture is:

  • Air + Fire (strong harmony): with Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Air feeds fire, and fire gives air warmth and courage.
  • Air + Earth (balanced harmony): with Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Earth gives ground to the decisions Libra keeps weighing.
  • Air + Water (moderate harmony): with Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. The language of feeling and the language of measure differ; communication takes effort.

With Gemini and Aquarius, from the same element, understanding comes easily; the catch is that two airs together may talk a lot and decide little. This table is only a starting point; real compatibility shows when both names are read in full.

Work and Money: Mediation Is a Profession Too

The fields seen as closest to Libra are those that call for building bridges between people and keeping a sense of measure: law and mediation, human resources, consulting, diplomacy and foreign relations, client relations. With Venus's touch, design, fashion, interior design, art direction and event organisation also suit this nature.

Libra's relationship with money is itself like a scale: happy to spend on what is beautiful, but keen to keep the accounts balanced. Partnerships can go well; the point to watch is overlooking the small print of a contract for the sake of a good relationship.

The Spiritual Side: Adl, Putting Everything in Its Place

In the Islamic ethical tradition, adl (justice) is defined as putting a thing in the place it deserves, while injustice is removing it from its place. In Surah Ar-Rahman, the Quran recalls that the sky was raised and the balance (mizan) set, and that one should not transgress in the balance or give short measure. Libra's spiritual depth meets this idea.

Seen this way, Libra's real test is to show itself the same fairness it shows others: to put its own needs on the scale too, and to count saying no as part of fairness.

Lucky Day, Stone and Colour

Lucky day: Friday. In the classical order of days and planets, Sunday belongs to the Sun, Monday to the Moon, Tuesday to Mars, Wednesday to Mercury, Thursday to Jupiter, Friday to Venus and Saturday to Saturn. Since Libra's planet is Venus, Friday is considered its closest day, traditionally mentioned for steps such as reconciling, reaching an agreement or starting a joint venture.

Stone: pearl and lapis lazuli. In the tradition, the stone belongs to the planet rather than the sign. Ghāyat al-Ḥakīm (the Picatrix) lists small and large pearls as the stones of Venus, and lapis lazuli is also among Venus's materials. Modern descriptions, by contrast, usually give Libra the opal, and some lists add pink tourmaline and lapis lazuli.

Colour: bright tones and gold tending to green. This is how the same work describes the colours of Venus. Modern zodiac lists usually give Libra pink and light blue.

If the planet is the same, why is Libra's stone read differently from Taurus's? Because the element shifts the emphasis. Earth highlights the value stored and accumulated in Venus's materials. Air brings forward what evokes light and sky: the pearl's light-reflecting surface, the sky colour of lapis lazuli. That is why it is striking that the classical tradition and today's lists meet in lapis lazuli.

Your Scale Is Set by Your Name

Everything above is a shared frame for anyone whose remainder is 7. Yet no two Libras have their needle in the same place. Which elements the letters of your name belong to, and whether fire, water or earth weighs most alongside air, decides which way you lean when it is time to choose. Which colour and stone truly suit you is also read not from a general list but from a calculation based on your name and your mother's name.

This article presents general interpretations from the Abjad and Yildizname tradition; it is not a definitive verdict, prophecy, guarantee or health advice. Stones and colours are traditional symbols.

Pearl, lapis lazuli or a different stone altogether?

The classical stones of Venus are only a starting point. Your own stone and colour can change with the letters of your name, your ruling planet and the planetary hours. Discover your tone with the Gemstone & Color Harmony analysis.
