Most Popular Baby Girl Names in Brazil 2025 and Their Meanings
The first name most often entered in Brazil's civil registry in 2025 belongs to a girl: Helena. With 30,379 registrations it leads not only the girls but the whole list, boys included. The closest boy's name, Ravi, has 23,418, a gap of 6,961.
Below you will find the girl names on Brazil's 2025 list with their meanings, origins, Arabic spellings and Abjad values, a comparison with 2024 and a short look back to 2021. First, though, a word on how the list is built, because Brazilian data works differently from most national statistics.
Three things to know first
- One list, both sexes. The source is the Portal da Transparência do Registro Civil run by Arpen-Brasil, the National Association of Civil Registrars, which represents Brazil's registry offices (cartórios). Each year the portal publishes the 50 most registered first names nationwide in a single list, without separating girls and boys. We extracted the girls' list from those 50 names ourselves. The "girls' rank" in the table is a name's position among the girl names in the mixed list, not an official girls' ranking; the overall rank is shown next to it. In 2025, 24 of the top 50 are girl names and 26 are boy names.
- The figures are registrations. They count entries made in the registry during the calendar year, and only the first name. Because the list stops at 50, we cannot know the rank of names below that line.
- Accents and missing names. The official data drops accents (CECILIA, ISIS and so on); we use the usual Portuguese spelling. Maria and Ana do not appear in this first-name list; the source does not explain why.

Ayla is also a Turkish name ("moonlight, halo"); the sources also treat it as a spelling of the Hebrew Ela and do not say which origin Brazilian use rests on. There is no Arabic-origin girl name on the list; most names are Latin, Greek or Germanic.
From 2024 to 2025: who rose, who fell?
- No change at the top. Helena is first among girls in every year of our 2021–2025 data. On the overall list Miguel led in 2021–2023; Helena took first place in 2024, and in 2025 4,972 more babies were given the name. Its lead over Maitê, second among girls, is 8,328.
- Fastest climb among the girl names that were in the top 50 in 2024 as well: Olivia, from 23rd to 10th among girls (45th to 26th overall), with 3,488 more registrations.
- Biggest gain in numbers among these girl names: Aurora, 5,361 more registrations, up from 6th to 4th. Aurora was not on the 2021 list at all and was 21st among girls in 2022.
- Swaps: Maitê moved up from 3rd to 2nd, Cecília down from 2nd to 3rd. Alice and Laura each slipped one place; Alice was second among girls from 2021 to 2023.
- Falling: Maya from 11th to 18th (1,312 fewer babies were given the name), Eloá from 13th to 22nd (1,254 fewer). Valentina was 4th among girls in 2021 and is 15th in 2025.
- In and out: Mavie and Jade enter the top 50 for the first time in our 2021–2025 data. Sofia returns after 2021 and 2022. Luna, Isadora and Isabella fell outside the top 50 in 2025.
One name, two rows: Sofia and Sophia
The Brazilian registry counts every spelling separately, so Sofia (7,027) and Sophia (6,540) appear as two rows. Added together they make 13,567, which would place them 7th among girls. In Arabic both are written صوفيا and carry the same Abjad value: 187. The difference in Latin spelling disappears in Arabic letters.
The Abjad view
Abjad is calculated from Arabic letters. Most of these names are rendered in Arabic by sound; we used the established Arabic spellings where they exist and a phonetic spelling where none does (Maitê, Cecília, Mavie, Eloá, for example).
- First letters of the top 10: 8 names begin with a Fire letter: 5 with alif (ا) (Aurora, Alice, Antonella, Ísis, Olivia), 2 with ha (ه) (Helena, Heloísa) and one with mim (م) (Maitê). Cecília begins with the Water letter س and Laura with the Earth letter ل; none begins with an Air letter. This count follows the classical classification used on our site; some authors classify the letters differently.
- Highest value: Valentina with 622, then Maitê with 461. What they share is the letter ت, worth 400 on its own. Aurora is third with 414, most of it from its two ر letters (200 each, 400 in all).
- Lowest value: Jade with 18 (جادي), followed by Ayla with 42 and Liz with 47.
- Same numbers: Helena and Alice 101; Olivia and Manuela 138; Lívia and Mavie 131.
- A different spelling, a different value: Helena written هيلانة is 101, written هيلينا it is 106; Jade written جيد is 17. No spelling is more auspicious than another; what matters is choosing one and keeping to it.

Baby Name Finder & Analysis — Get My AnalysisTrue or false?
"This is Brazil's official ranking of girl names." False. The official list is the mixed top 50 of girls' and boys' names. The girls' ranks are derived from it.
"Maria and Ana are no longer given." This data does not show that. The two names are absent from the first-name list, and the source does not say why.
"Two names with the same number have the same character." False. Helena and Alice share a value, but their letters and the elements of those letters differ. In the Abjad tradition it is not the total alone that is read, but the structure of the letters and the balance they strike with the other names in the family.
"A higher value means a stronger name." There is no such rule in the tradition. Valentina's high value comes largely from a single letter. A name may complete a missing element in one family and add to an already dominant one in another.
Final word
This list shows which names Brazilian families chose most often in 2025; it does not show which one suits your family. A name's meaning comes from the dictionary and its value from its letters, but its harmony can only be read together with the mother's and father's names.
